Smiths Parish is home to Flatts Village, one of only three villages in Bermuda. It is centered around the tranquil blue-green waters of Flatts Inlet, once the site of numerous smuggling and pirating operations, and the picturesque Harrington Sound, an unusual saltwater lake. Flatts is now a popular mooring site for pleasure craft.

Also located in Smiths is Verdmont Museum, one of the most important of The Bermuda National Trust's historic properties. Constructed around 1710, it features four large chimneys. Unlike most buildings of its period, Verdmont has remained virtually unchanged structurally for almost 300 years. The house, which is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is set in period-planted gardens with a panoramic view over the south shore. Inside you'll find a beautiful gathering of 18th-century Bermuda cedar furniture and antiques, including English and Chinese porcelain.

Another nearby national treasure is Spittal Pond Nature Reserve, the National Trust's most important area of open space. It contains Bermuda's largest bird sanctuary and the oldest evidence of humans on Bermuda. On top of a high cliff on the southern shore of the reserve is "Spanish Rock" in which the date 1543 and some indecipherable letters have been carved. The 34-acre reserve also features trails that border the shoreline cliffs and pass through lush woodlands. The best months for bird watching here are November though May. On Harrington Sound Road is Bermuda's first tourist attraction, Devil's Hole Aquarium. This small but deep lake located within a cavern is filled with angelfish, green parrotfish, snappers, Bermudian green turtles, moray eels and other marine creatures; you can observe them from a bridge. There is also a snack shop on the grounds. Devil's Hole is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
